FAQs

How do I donate equipment?
We welcome most donations of pediatric equipment.  Please contact us at info@ablecloset.com and describe the equipment you would like to donate.  We will follow up with you and let you know the best time to bring your donation to our warehouse.  AbleCloset is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so you will receive a donation acknowledgment for your tax records.

We are not able to accept donations of medical equipment such as medications and hospital beds.  We also do not accept electric wheelchairs due to the ongoing maintenance requirements, though we may be able to find another organization or individual to receive your electric wheelchair.

Do I qualify to borrow equipment?
AbleCloset is a “loaner” program, designed to provide equipment for children that are unable to obtain the needed equipment through other means or to be used while waiting for their equipment to be approved. It is not intended to be a family’s first and only resource for long term equipment needs. Any family with a special needs child, regardless of income level, may borrow appropriate equipment as long as they agree to our terms and conditions. AbleCloset reserves the right to refuse equipment loans.

How long can I keep the equipment?
There is currently a six month limit to each piece of equipment loaned out. If no one has put the equipment on hold after the six month period, the loan may be extended for another six months. The six month limit may be reconsidered on an individual basis.

How many pieces of equipment can I borrow?
A family can borrow three pieces of equipment at one time.

Where and when can I pick up the equipment?
Pick-ups are in Santa Clara at 1805 Walsh Road, Ste 1815. We generally have pick-ups on the first and third Saturday of each month. To verify a warehouse date, click to borrow a piece of equipment and view the possible pick-up dates on our system. Warehouse hours are from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. At this time we are not able to accommodate special requests for alternate pick-up times or locations.

Is there a fee to borrow equipment?
AbleCloset is a non-profit organization that runs solely upon the donations of individuals. While we have a “suggested donation” of $25 per piece of equipment, this fee is not required. Any monetary donation helps cover operating costs and the purchase of new equipment. Make your donation today.

How can I ensure this equipment is right for my child?
The family must have a therapist available to check the safety and sizing of the equipment as AbleCloset is unable to provide these services.

Is there any required paperwork?
Yes. Loaning of the equipment is contingent upon the family completing the release of liability agreement, including credit card information retained as a security deposit.

If I don’t have a credit card, can I still borrow equipment?
The credit card is only used as a security deposit. If you do not have a credit card, please contact us to make other arrangements.

Can you help me find equipment that is not listed in your inventory?
If you are looking for a specific piece of equipment, please email us your request so we can try to locate it for you, or notify you if it comes into our inventory.
