How do I Donate Equipment?
Donating equipment is easy. Drop off the equipment during our open warehouse hours. We are located at 1815 Walsh Ave, Santa Clara. Please note that we do not accept hospital beds, custom-fit braces, power wheelchairs or damaged equipment. Warehouse hours are typically 10am – 11am on the first and third weekend of each month, and every Tuesday from 11am-12pm. We are closed in December and around holidays. To verify a warehouse date, click to borrow a piece of equipment and view the possible pick-up dates on our system. Alternatively, our hours are updated monthly on the AbleCloset Facebook page.
Do I qualify to borrow equipment?
AbleCloset is a “loaner” program, designed to provide equipment for children that are unable to obtain the needed equipment through other means or to be used while waiting for their equipment to be approved. It is not intended to be a family’s first and only resource for long term equipment needs. Any family with a special needs child, regardless of income level, may borrow appropriate equipment as long as they agree to our terms and conditions. AbleCloset reserves the right to refuse equipment loans.
How long can I keep the equipment?
There is currently a 6 month limit to each piece of equipment loaned out. Specialty equipment may have time limits of 2 weeks to 2 months. This is typically the case for beach wheelchairs, bikes and KidWalks. If no one has put the equipment on hold after your loan period, the loan may be extended.
How many pieces of equipment can I borrow?
A family can borrow up to two pieces of equipment at one time.
Where and when can I pick up the equipment?
Pick-ups are in Santa Clara at 1815 Walsh Ave. Warehouse hours are typically 10am – 11am on the first and third weekend of each month. We are closed in December and around holidays. To verify a warehouse date, click to borrow a piece of equipment and view the possible pick-up dates on our system. Alternatively, our hours are updated monthly on the AbleCloset Facebook page.
Is there a fee to borrow equipment?
AbleCloset is a non-profit organization that runs solely upon the donations of individuals. While we have a “suggested donation” of $25 per piece of equipment, this fee is not required. Any monetary donation helps cover operating costs and the purchase of new equipment. Make your donation today.
How can I ensure this equipment is right for my child?
The family must have a therapist available to check the safety and sizing of the equipment as AbleCloset is unable to provide these services.
Can our therapist pick up the equipment for us?
Yes. A therapist or family member may pick up the equipment. However, the parent or legal guardian must complete a signed Release-of-Liability that can be submitted prior or at the pick-up time.
Is there any required paperwork?
Yes. Loaning of the equipment is contingent upon the family completing the release of liability agreement.
If I don’t have a credit card, can I still borrow equipment?
The credit card is only used as a security deposit. If you do not have a credit card, please contact us to make other arrangements.
What does it mean if I “reserve” equipment?
When equipment is checked out, you can add yourself to a wait list by clicking “Reserve” and entering your information. When it’s your turn to borrow the equipment, our system sends you an email. If you don’t schedule a pick up date the hold on the equipment will be released.
I put myself on a wait list. When will the equipment be available?
Unfortunately there is no way to accurately tell you when the equipment will be available. The site tells you when the family who currently has the equipment is scheduled to return it. You are also notified during the “reserve” process as to how many people are on the wait list before you. Often times, families have found other equipment and no longer need the item.
Can you help me find equipment that is not listed in your inventory?
At this time, we can’t accommodate requests for equipment outside of our current inventory. However, it is helpful to know what you are looking for. Please email us your request so we can track interest.
